Jacob Zuma should participate in a live televised debate with opposition leaders.

As seen during the run up to the US elections, televised debates form an important part of informing the public of parties policies and their ability to defend those policies. We find it unfortunate that the ruling party refuses to defend its policies in such a format.

Jacob Zuma has challenged opposition leader Helen Zille to debate, yet when she accepted he backed away. However debate should not be limited to the two largest parties, as in our ever changing political landscape it is important that all parties who have a chance of winning seats in Parliament are visible to voters.

We believe that a leader who is unwilling to defend is policies against direct criticism calls into question his own understanding and belief of his policies; and so as concerned South Africans eager to be better informed voters we ask Jacob Zuma to debate opposition leaders.
