Fireworks Displays are cruel to animals.

We would like to obtain a petition to stop "The Lord Charles Hotel" in Somerset West from having fireworks displays at their year-end function.  Whilst under normal circumstances the Law prohibits Fireworks Displays in residential areas, this hotel is able to procure a permit for such displays.

This petition is designed, not just to convince the Hotel to cease with this practice for the obvious reasons, but to also register sufficient objection to the issue of the Permit.

Dear All, Finally the drama and trauma is over and we are elated. The hotel came to their senses and decided to be kinder to animals. Thank you to all who joined this group to enable us to prevent the fireworks display from taking place. Mr. Foulon gave me his assurance this morning that it will never happen again. Let’s not stop here, please continue to build a "fireworks free" South Africa. Paws always Suzarne, Bijoux & Sir Hutchinson ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This was the reply from the Hotel: "As a hotel situated in a residential area, we are keenly aware that we need to be good neighbours. This means being considerate to those who live nearby. Our fireworks display was intended as a celebration of the New Year for our guests. After some careful consideration following the concerns raised by some nearby residents, we have decided to provide alternative entertainment that will not involve loud fireworks. The issue of permits was not a factor in this decision, as our professional suppliers assured us that the display would comply with all relevant regulation. We hope that by finding another way to celebrate the arrival of 2010 we ensure that our guests and our neighbours all have an enjoyable New Year. Yours sincerely Serge Foulon"
